Chickens, Chickens, Chickens!!!

I love farm fresh eggs and for several years know I have wanted backyard chickens to supply our own eggs.  And for years My Hubby has adamantly said "NO!"  His reasoning being our Pooch is a bird dog and would kill them!  My argument was always that our yard was big enough to keep Pooch and birds separated.  Still, he said "NO!"

Last week, the tides turned! The Contessa made a deal with My Hubby.  The deal was if she got a good grade on her math test (she has a terrible time in math!) that she could get two baby chicks from her friend.  My Hubby AGREED!!!  The Contessa received a 98% on her math test and two days later her friend delivered to adorable baby chicks!

Meet Bambi and Dixie!

The next day we headed to our local feed store to pick up some additional supplies we need and to my delight they STILL had more baby chicks in the store!  I knew My Hubby might not be totally pleased with my decision, but I decided to get FOUR MORE CHICKS!!

Meet Delilah, Buttercup, Petunia and Oreo!

As I expected My Hubby was not too pleased with my decision, but once I pointed out the fact that I did NOT bring home a DOG as he had done just a year ago, he calmed down and is now in the planning stages of building our new pets a magnificent coop!

Our chicks are only two weeks old and are currently living in a bin in our garage bathroom until the completion of their permanent home, which they will move into in 5 weeks when they no longer need to be kept warm by the heat lamp.

They are growing at a rapid pace and it is so fun to see how involved all four of my kids are being in taking care of them.
